Hello again. The new way of thinking fundamental to our small business development path comes more naturally to a scientist like myself than to people without this training. That’s because its essential to think of your business in a new way – as a scientific experiment. Conventionally you are told that a business requires a business plan including a marketing plan. On our new pathway you need to think of these planning exercises as developing an experiment – one that you predict will produce certain revenues and require certain costs.
Understanding that this planning process is creating an experiment is absolutely fundamental to this new way of thinking. An experiment ensures that you will always learn something new. The predicted outcome of any planning experiment rarely turns out “exactly” as predicted. What is important to know is just how the outcome differs from the prediction. Once this is evident, it will point to some aspect of the experiment that clearly isn’t working. Logical reasons need to be developed that could explain “why” this prediction isn’t happening. This is the basis for enhancing, modifying or changing the plan and so creating a new experiment. Continuously running new experiments is how a business best succeeds. New knowledge gained from the analysis of previous experiments is what drives this process. Never ceasing to run experiments guarantees that a small business will become ever better and thus ever more competitive.
Fundamental to running good experiments is carefully thinking out “why” questions to come up with plausible reasons why a particular experiment should work. Then a measuring system needs to inform how reality compares to this prediction. This scientific approach is at the core of what our “thought and practice” sessions teach.
These sessions are organized in three, six-session modules – one about planning experiments that will generate revenue, one about experiments that will improve operational efficiencies, and one about using proper prediction and outcome measurement systems. This latter module is all about financial management.
These sessions challenge normal business practices. They require a new kind of thinking, changing old habits. This isn’t easy. A dedicated period of hard work is needed. Without such a commitment you will be wasting your time and that of your group colleagues. So if you have any doubts whatsoever, this program isn’t for you.
On the other hand if you fully appreciate the challenge that is being offered and can put in at least 10 hours a week to enthusiastically “meet” the challenges as they come, then by all means click on the “Register” button.
These weekly 10 hours will be sufficient to allow your group to easily complete each session in no more than 3 weeks. To reinforce the importance of this schedule, once you receive the entry codes to access the 6-session training module of your choice, an 18 week clock will start ticking, at the end of which the entry codes will expire.
